FTP with Windows XP

This is a tutorial on how to use FTP to connect to a Web site using Windows XP. It will guide you through making a connection to your Web site.

Steps for Making an FTP Connection

1 Open My Network Places. My Network Places icon
2 Click Add a network place. Add a network place
3 Click Next. Next button
4 The Add Network Place Wizard will open. Select Choose another network location. Choose another network location
5 Click Next. Next button
6 In the Internet or network address field enter your FTP site address; e.g., ftp://www.mysite.com Enter internet address
7 Click Next. Next button
8 On the User Name and Password screen, uncheck Log on anonymously. Log on anonymously check box
9 In the User name field enter your user name; e.g., JoeBob09 Enter user name
10 Click Next. Next button
11 In the Type a name for this network place field enter a name for this connection; e.g., My Site FTP. It can be anything you like. Name the network connection
12 Click Next. Next button
13 Click Finish. Finish button
14 When the Log On As box pops up, enter your password in the Password field. (This box may take a little while to pop up depending on your internet connection.) Enter password
15 Check the Save Password box. Enable Save Password option
16 Click Log On. Log On button
17 If you now return to the My Network Places area you will see an icon with the name My Site FTP (or whatever you entered at step 11). You can click this icon to connect via FTP to your Web site. Network connection icon
