Whether you have a small home office or are a large corporation, you have to expect the unexpected and be prepared. Sure, you have fire insurance in case the building burns down, but what about your data? Do you keep daily backups off site? - SoHo Computer Basics

Today's large amount of choices with regards to computers in the work place can make for a difficult amount of information to wade through in terms of what you should get for your small office/home office (SoHo). What should you use for workstation computers? What about security, or firewalls, or routers? What do all these do? Even when faced with the choices for operating systems, there are so many options to choose from: Do I get Windows XP Professional? Windows 2003 Server? Vista Basic/Premium/Business/Ultimate? Mac OSX? Linux? It's easy to be talked into spending too much money for something you might not need, or to get something that won't serve the needs of your business.
This seminar will attempt to dispel some of the confusion about these choices, as well as discuss some of the terms, technologies and hardware involved. We will discuss computer workstation choices, which operating system will work best for you, and the pros and cons of each one. We will also talk about what things like routers and firewalls, as well as what kind of Internet connection to use. Even what kind of computer monitor you get can have an impact on your work flow. Other office equipment such as printers and scanners will also be discussed. This seminar aims to make you more aware so that you can make better choices.
