Apache is a free open-source HTTP server software package developed and provided by the Apache Software Foundation. Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April 1996 and runs on nearly every operating system available, including Linux, Windows, Mac OS X and many more. Apache's robustness, features, stability and freely-available source code has shaped the Internet and the World Wide Web into how we know it today. Students will learn how to utilize the Apache server technology to implement and maintain enterprise-class web sites.

Terms of Employment:

  • Recurring contract
  • Part-time evenings (6-9pm, two nights a week)
  • Approximately twice a year

Job Location:

University of Winnipeg Division of Continuing Education 294 William Avenue (at Princess Street) Winnipeg, MB

Job Description:

The instructor develops and teaches portions of the Web Development Diploma at the University of Winnipeg Division of Continuing Education. At the end of this program, students should be able to successfully build a functional e-commerce web application for their final project. Specific course topics can be seen by visiting the course outline, linked below.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach the applicable portion of the Web Development Diploma program that consists of the following courses:
  • Prepare lectures that will serve as the primary teaching tool and select books that will be purchased by the students as resource material.
  • Create, administer and mark quizzes, assignments, exams and/or projects to evaluate the students' understanding of the material and the instructor's effectiveness. Support will be provided to ensure that such materials comply with Lanoie.com and University standards.
  • Meet deadlines for submitting course outlines, printing requests, book requirements, drafts of evaluation materials and marking criteria, class activity schedules, and final grades.
  • Other (related) duties as required and agreed on, as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • Experience in installing, configuring, administering and troubleshooting Apache in Windows and/or Unix environments (both would be an asset).
  • Ability to plan and develop course content, evaluation materials, and learning outcomes that will prepare the students to successfully complete the final e-commerce project.
  • A degree in education or in course design or previous teaching experience would be a definite asset.
  • Very good written and verbal English communications skills. You will have to prepare and give presentations as well as clearly explain technical concepts to students who may have no previous experience in the subject matter.
  • Excellent 'people skills' (social personality).
  • Experience in public speaking and presentations.
  • Ability to lead and encourage teamwork and co-operation.
  • Quality and detail oriented.

Other Requirements:

  • Must be able to provide own transportation to the UW-DCE located in the Exchange District.
  • Must have Microsoft Word and Excel to create and edit the course documentation.

Salary Range:

Negotiable, based on experience and duties.
