Work Environment
Overview
In order to get down to the fun part of Flash, first you need to learn your way around the program. There's quite a bit of information to absorb but it's a necessary step on your journey to becoming a Flash guru.
Here is a summary of some of the topics in this lecture:
- Stage and Work Area
- In keeping with Macromedia's movie theme for Flash, the place where the action takes place is on the Stage. You'll find out how the Stage and Work Area relate to the production of your finished movies.
- Movie Properties
- Movie properties include things like its dimensions, the speed of movie playback, and the background colour. You can customize and save these properties to apply to all future movies you create.
- Timeline
- Playback of Flash movies is controlled by the Timeline which is divided up into frames. When content is placed on the Stage, it also appears along the Timeline which adds the dimension of time to your movies.
- Layers
- Use layers to manage and separate different content for ease of editing your movies as well as for allowing foreground and background elements to move independently.
- Layer Properties
- You can hide, display, and lock selected layers while you're working and control how layers are displayed.
- Scenes
- Scenes are an optional way to organize your movie into separate sections while working in the authoring environment.
- Panels
- The floating panels in Flash allow you to quickly access a variety of functions. Learn how to organize and display panels and to customize your own panel layout.
