Flash

Final Project

Your Flash project must contain a few key elements to receive marks. Each section of the project will be marked separately, then added up for a total project mark.

Your project can have any theme you wish, but must contain the following:

  1. Motion tweens

Your Flash movie should contain some kind of motion tweened animation. Marks will be given not only for the presence of motion tweens, but also for the look and feel of the animation. (In other words, just having a simple tweened object "there because it has to be" won't get you a full mark.)

  2. Shape Tweens

Your Flash movie should contain some kind of shape tween. Marks will be given as above, for not only the presence of, but for the visual appearance of your shape tween, just as with motion tweens.

  3. Text

The Flash project should contain some text. Informational text (not buttons or other navigational text) should be selectable.

  4. Sound

Your Flash project should contain some sounds. You will need to have both event sounds and streaming sounds present in your movie.

Sound samples and loops can be searched for here.

  5. Buttons

You will need to include several buttons that use simple ActionScript commands (ie: play(); stop(); gotoAndPlay();) that will control your timeline and allow the user to navigate to different areas of the movie's timeline.

  6. Imported Images

Your Flash project should have at least one imported image (JPEG, GIF or PNG) included in it.

  7. Masks

Your movie should have some masked content. Marks will be given for not only the existence of a mask, but for creatively used masks as well.

  8. Timeline

Your project should have elements separated properly into layers. Different areas of the timeline that will be controlled with ActionScript (see #5) should be labeled properly. Things like actions and sounds should be separated onto their own layers.

  9. Appearance

This is the subjective mark for the project. Top marks will be given for a visually appealing project. You don't need to have a complicated Flash movie for this part, just make sure your movie is orderly, not too cluttered, or too plain. The project should have things like buttons aligned properly, as well as other content nicely aligned and visually appealing. Good use of background colours, gradients, and transparent objects will all make your project score higher here.

  10. Publishing

The final project should be published properly as an .swf file, and placed properly into a Web page. (You can use Flash, your own code, or another program to do this.) Make sure that the .swf is protected from import. The Flash movie should be nicely centered on the Web page, and should not scale when the browser window is resized.
