DHTML

DHTML Overview

How This Course Is Structured

We're just about ready to dive into the world of DHTML. Before we do however, we should talk a bit about how this course is going to be structured, just to avoid confusion later on.

First, Javascript

The first part of this course (besides this overview module) is a complete JavaScript tutorial. We will first give an introduction to JavaScript, what it is, where to put it, and where it came from. Then we will go through JavaScript programming fundamentals, discussing things like variables, operators, and conditional statements (among other things). Then we will delve into how to make some of the really cool JavaScript applications that were talked about in the last lecture.

We will finish off this part of the course by showing you how to effectively troubleshoot JavaScript; a very useful and timesaving skill.

The JavaScript part of the course could almost be a course by itself. But wait, there's more!

Then CSS

The second major part of this course is based on CSS, from basic CSS (level 1) to advanced CSS (level 2). We will first give and introduction to CSS that will teach you basic CSS, then we will go into the advanced CSS techniques like positioning and visibility.

Putting it all together

Once you have a good understanding of both JavaScript and CSS, it's time to put the two together for some truly amazing DHTML. These techniques and other neat effects will be discussed. We will than learn how to apply your new DHTML powers to making things like pop-up menus, animated layers, and a few other really amazing effects.

How This Course Is Structured Summary

This course contains three main sections. First a self contained JavaScript course, complete with programming fundamentals, then a self contained CSS tutorial that will cover basic CSS to advanced CSS. After all this, we will learn how to put these two technologies together.
